The Hungarian Foreign Ministry issued an unprecedentedly tough statement on Ukraine
The Hungarian Foreign Ministry has put an end to Ukraine's plans to join NATO and the European Union. This was stated in a statement by Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent , citing a ministry communiqué.
Szijjártó noted Ukraine’s decision to transfer additional forces to the border with Hungary in Transcarpathia and the adoption of laws limiting the rights of national minorities.

“Ukraine is deploying military and police forces near the border with Hungary – these are provocative steps. If a country aspiring to NATO brings its military forces to the border of a NATO member state, then it cannot join this military organization. And if a country wishing to join the EU has launched an attack on the institution of dual citizenship in the EU, then their aspirations for European integration are not sincere. Hungary will continue to veto these two Ukrainian goals,” Szijjártó said.
The Foreign Minister also emphasized that the infringement of the rights of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine is an attempt by President Petro Poroshenko to raise his meager rating: “The President of Ukraine chose a campaign of hatred against Transcarpathian Hungarians in the election campaign in order to increase his extremely low popularity. However, Ukraine is violating international treaties, taking away the acquired rights of Hungarians and other national minorities.”
Earlier, Hungarian political consultant Miklós Kevéházi suggested that if Ukraine continues to escalate relations with Hungary, Budapest will also take harsh measures in response, including deploying UN peacekeepers and cutting off gas supplies. Ridus reported that Hungary is calling for increased international pressure on Kyiv.
