Ukrainian Foreign Ministry: Hungary began to act as if Transcarpathia was its territory
Hungary began to act as if Transcarpathia was its territory, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vasily Bodnar said in an interview with the Kyiv newspaper Zerkalo Nedeli.
“Hungary began to act as if Transcarpathia were its territory. It’s not just about issuing passports or creating the position of “government commissioner responsible for the development of the Transcarpathian region.” If Ukraine does not respond to such actions by Budapest, then this impunity will lead to unpredictable consequences. Our goal is to show that Ukrainian sovereignty extends over the region, which we will defend,” the official said, commenting on the scandal with the expulsion of the Hungarian consul for issuing passports in the Transcarpathian city of Berehove.

“Consciously exacerbating the conflict, Hungary believes: Ukraine, at war with Russia, experiencing serious problems in the sphere of government, in need of political support in the international arena in countering Russian aggression and billions of loans for a frail economy, will be forced to make concessions...
But our interlocutors from the government and the foreign policy department are confident: despite who wins the presidential elections, the Ukrainian government will continue to be consistent in its policy of strengthening Ukraine’s sovereignty in Transcarpathia, since Ukrainian society will not allow anything else...
Both Ukraine and Hungary have prepared for the fact that the conflict will last for a long time. Neither side intends to concede yet,” the newspaper writes.
