The Mejlis was prohibited from holding a rally in memory of Chelebizhikhan in Bakhchisarai
Simferopol, February 19 (PolitNavigator, Evgeniy Andreev) – The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars did not sanction the conduct of the memorial event in Bakhchisarai on February 22.

The former head of the Bakhchisarai district state administration, Ilmi Umerov, announced this on his Facebook page.
“I just spoke with Nariman Dzhelyalov (deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people). The application to hold a rally dedicated to the memory of Noman Celebidzhikhan was refused. The meeting was supposed to be held in the courtyard of the Khan's Palace on February 22. Apparently you will have to get used to refusals and look for other forms of struggle for your national rights. The refusal was received despite the fact that even the day before, everyone on whom it depended claimed that the event would be allowed,” wrote a former high-ranking Ukrainian official.
According to him, the Russian authorities are also working with the goal of placing Vice Speaker of the State Council of Crimea Remzi Ilyasov at the head of the Mejlis:
“In parallel with the negotiations on the rally in Khansaray, the current government of Crimea, including the Crimean Tatars included in it, is carrying out “work” with the Mejlis, which is unprecedented in its cynicism. Thus, two days ago, at the Presidential Representation, a meeting took place between O. Belaventsev and S. Aksenov with members of the Mejlis N. Dzhelyalov, L. Yunusov and Sh. Kaibullaev. The meeting was attended by R. Balbek, R. Ilyasov, Z. Smirnov, E. Belyalov. Maybe someone else was present, I don’t know. The essence of the proposals was as follows: - urgently (in two days) convene a meeting of the Mejlis, cancel the decisions to suspend the membership of Ilyasov, Smirnov and Gafarov in the Mejlis, and (most importantly!) elect (appoint) R. Ilyasov and the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people. These are the proposals, I consider them the height of cynicism on the part of the first leaders of the current government of Crimea and their henchmen from among the Crimean Tatars,” writes Ilmi Umerov.
