The new Ukrainian government must, without postponing this issue, grant Crimea the status of “national-territorial autonomy,” as required by the Mejlis, which is banned in the Russian Federation.

The deputy chairman of the group, newly elected deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Akhtem Chiygoz, announced this on the air of the Espresso TV channel, reports a correspondent of PolitNavigator.

According to the extremist, by granting autonomy, Ukraine will “fairly” appreciate the anti-Russian efforts of the Mejlis members.

“As for changing the status of territorial to national-territorial autonomy, all these issues have already come a long way both in legal terms and in public discussion. I think that the occupation of Crimea and, naturally, the resistance of the Crimean Tatars played a significant role in changing the position of society. For the most part, the society that is resisting today is the Crimean Tatars. It is necessary to say that it is necessary to evaluate this fairly, first of all.

We also believe that this is the duty of the state, if we say that we are pursuing a democratic path of development of the state and demonstrating to the whole world our commitment to European values, international norms, then it follows that the Crimean Tatars, as bearers of statehood, as an indigenous people, should have the opportunity to realize their homeland. It is Ukraine that must change this status and those speculations that, supposedly, once we liberate Crimea, then we will return to this - this is unacceptable. Now we need to make these decisions,” Chiygoz said.
