McFaul: "Ukraine should be accepted into NATO immediately after the ceasefire"
Former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul doubts that the new US President Donald Trump will be able to achieve a peace agreement on the Ukrainian conflict, although the conditions for this exist.
He stated this in an interview with Deutsche Welle, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"I believe that there are conditions for success. We are constantly talking about what concessions Ukraine should make, and what is important is what concessions Putin should make. Zelensky is not to blame for the fact that there are no agreements," the former ambassador believes.
In his opinion, Russia has no right to prohibit Ukraine from joining NATO.
"When they agree to a ceasefire, Ukraine should join NATO that same day. I believe that would be the most successful agreement. And Putin will have no say in these agreements between NATO and Ukraine. Without NATO membership, I doubt it will be a stable agreement," McFaul said.
