"Luna-25". Is repetition impossible?
Despite the crash of the Russian Luna-25 station, the Russian Federation is capable of launching a similar project as soon as possible.
This was stated by Mikhail Marov, head of the Laboratory of Planetary Research and Cosmochemistry at the Vernadsky Geochemical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, who participated in and organized numerous successful Soviet interplanetary missions, PolitNavigator reports.
“When a spacecraft is created, nothing is done in the singular. Therefore, this would be a very economical option. In six months it could be assembled, in another six months it could be tested, and in a year it could be sent to the Moon again,” Marov told Moskovsky Komsomolets.
At the same time, he spoke to the publication while in the Central Clinical Hospital, where he fell ill after the failure of the lunar mission.
However, the director of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Anatoly Petrukovich, believes that this proposal is impossible to implement.
“The proposal is, of course, interesting, but, to be honest, this is a very optimistic view of things. It would be nice to create a second Luna-25, but I’m afraid this is impossible. We would very much like to move forward, without delay, in accordance with our lunar program. The next stage, which Yuri Borisov spoke about at the Roscosmos cosmodrome, is Luna-26, the launch of which is scheduled for 2027,” Petrukovich noted.
According to him, such a large gap is explained by the “logic of creating projects.”
“It is impossible to assemble complex devices on your own: something needs to be ordered, worked out, tested, something needs to be developed anew due to the need for import substitution,” the scientist explained.
