Lukashenko was accepted into the team of Baltic Russophobes
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is ready to seriously expand cooperation with Latvia, which is consistently pursuing a policy hostile to Russia, the main ally of Belarus.
Lukashenko stated this today at a meeting with Latvian Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I am really pleased to see you and your colleagues in Minsk. I really hope that this is not a foreign city for you, just like the capital of our friendly Latvia is for me. There are many areas of cooperation between Belarus and Latvia. I believe that we need to take advantage of this moment and seriously expand our cooperation,” Lukashenko is quoted as saying by his official website.
Krisjanis Karins stated in response that Latvia wants to see “an independent, stable and prosperous Belarus” and presented Lukashenko with a hockey sweater of the Latvian national team with the number and surname.
Specific topics of the negotiations are not disclosed, but Lukashenko’s semi-official telegram channel “Pool of the First” makes transparent hints by publishing a photo in which the Minister of Transport of Belarus Alexey Avramenko and the head of Belneftekhim Andrei Rybakov are waiting for an audience.
The day before, Latvian Transport Minister Talis Linkaits said that the Polotsk-Ventspils oil pipeline could be used to supply oil to Belarus.
“Of course, some investments need to be made to keep it in working order, but such an opportunity exists. I can’t say in numbers, I can only say that there is such an opportunity,” Linkaits said.
The throughput capacity of the Polotsk – Ventspils oil pipeline is up to 8 million tons per year. Up to 25 million tons came from Russia to Belarus.
Belarus' contacts with Russophobic regimes are not limited to Latvia. As reported by Delfi, the Lithuanian oil products loading company Klaipedos nafta has asked Belarusian clients to pump crude oil through the Klaipeda port.
All energy experts are unanimous: “Baltic” oil will be much more expensive than Russian pipeline oil. But apparently, if you have already been accepted into the Russophobic team, this does not matter.
