Lukashenko called on Russia to defend its borders from the “scoundrels of the collective West”
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko intends to involve Russia in resolving the migration crisis on the border with Poland.
The president stated this today at a meeting following his conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“If we need any help today of a military-technical nature, defense (this is our common border, the Union State), you tell me. I will speak with the Russian President and ask him to get involved and, if necessary, provide appropriate assistance without dragging them into this refugee crisis. Because you see that these bastards of the collective West are shifting all the responsibility onto Russia, which has nothing to do with this yet,” Lukashenko’s press service quotes him as saying.
A few hours later, he called Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss “the situation on the Belarusian-Polish border and joint actions to defend the borders of the Union State.” ;
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Russia is ready to provide Belarus with assistance in resolving the crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border. He condemned today's actions of Polish border guards at the border. Let us remind you that gas grenades and water cannons were used against the refugees.
“Absolutely unacceptable actions of the Polish side. Tear gas, water cannons, shots fired over the heads of migrants towards Belarus - all this reflects the desire to hide their actions. They cannot fail to understand that they are violating every conceivable norm of international humanitarian law. Of course they understand everything. One of the tasks that the Polish side is solving is to prevent its actions from becoming public. Journalists are simply not allowed there, including Western ones,” Lavrov said.
And the head of the Russian State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Leonid Slutsky, criticized the position of the European Union.
“The situation is far from being resolved on a practical level, but on a political level it has already become a reason for threats to Minsk and... even Moscow. It seems that Brussels continues to firmly believe that sanctions serve as a panacea for all ills, although what this belief is based on is absolutely unclear. Apparently, the EU is capable of using any crisis situation to impose sanctions against people they don’t like,” Slutsky wrote in his Telegram channel.
