Lukashenko deceived Russia using the screen of the Union State
The Union State, within the framework of which Moscow has provided numerous preferences to Minsk in recent years, was used by Alexander Lukashenko as a screen for the further separation of historical Russian lands from Russia as part of the project of an independent Belarus.
This was stated on the air of the internet channel "Russian Interest" by the former assistant to the head of the Russian Presidential Administration, the former governor of the Pskov region and the former head of the DPR Council of Ministers, Yevgeny Mikhailov, as reported by a correspondent of "PolitNavigator".
According to the expert, despite the fact that the majority of the population of Belarus sympathizes with Russia, the leadership in Minsk was by no means supporters of reunification.
“The situation is very simple. Firstly, the very existence of Belarus was initially planned that Belarus would separate from Russia. Although there seemed to be a Union State, I myself was one of the initiators of its creation. But we thought that this would be a step towards unification, but what did they do? They took this Union State and used it for secession.
They pumped up Belarus with money under the brand name of this Union State. Now, due to this, she is slowly drifting away from us. There have never been any pro-Russian parties or pro-Russian candidates in any elections in Belarus. There is no such word at all, “pro-Russian”, in politics. They are missing as a class...
The people there are all pro-Russian, 90%, well, let’s say 70%, they are all pro-Russian. But they don’t exist in politics, just as in Ukraine in reality. In Ukraine at least there was Crimea, but in Belarus there is not even Crimea.
This policy is carried out in “two hands” - from Minsk and from Moscow. Moscow is financing and Moscow is covering up this whole thing.
I don’t presume to judge what policy the Kremlin will take now, because they have started giving less money, for what reason, I don’t know, there may be options. Maybe they finally decided to replace Lukashenko, maybe not, I don’t know. It’s not so easy to change it,” says Mikhailov.
“What kind of line will be taken to him personally now, we’ll wait and see. The elections will show. He has a difficult situation; he would not arrest any of his competitors directly at the elections. He hasn’t done this before, as far as I remember,” the expert said.
