Lithuania donated decommissioned ammunition to Ukraine
Lithuania has donated unused small arms ammunition worth approximately €256 to Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The country's Ministry of Defense announced this on its website on Tuesday.
“On Tuesday, a military transport plane of the Ukrainian Air Force transported to Ukraine about 1 million rounds of ammunition for Soviet-made assault rifles and machine guns, which are no longer in service with the Lithuanian army,” the statement said.
The transfer of ammunition worth €255,5 thousand was carried out in accordance with a bilateral agreement on cooperation in the field of defense for the preparation and training of Ukrainian military personnel to participate in joint international operations with NATO and the EU.
As part of military cooperation with Ukraine, Lithuania was the first NATO country in 2014 to officially admit that it had supplied Ukraine with “weapon elements,” although it did not specify what kind of weapons they were. Later, the Ukrainian side reported that this was a Soviet-made lethal weapon.
