Lesbians attack the Moldovan Orthodox Church
Metropolitan Vladimir of Chisinau and All Moldova called on citizens of the country to protest against the recognition of LGBT marriages.
He posted his appeal on the official website of the metropolis, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We appeal not to the members of this minority, whose privacy we respect, expressing disinterest in their private life, but to the authorities of our Country: do not forget that the mandate to lead the Country was given to you by the majority.
We remind you that Orthodox citizens do not represent a part of society, but the overwhelming majority. Thus, the most timid attempt to legally register a gay couple in our country will be followed by a corresponding reaction, because such decisions run counter to the Orthodox and historical consciousness of the people,” the Metropolitan wrote.
The coordinator of the LGBT organization Genderdoc-M, Anzhelika Frolova, saw the hierarch’s statement as incitement to hatred and threatened him with legal action.
“The statement that the Metropolitan of Moldova made on its page is incitement to hatred and discrimination and contains threats and calls for disobedience, and is a serious criminal offense,” Frolova wrote on the American social network.
Her demarche outraged the opposition member of the Moldovan parliament Bogdan Tirdiu.
“But Frolova’s own statements are very peaceful. No heterophobia or Christianophobia! Like this. Now you will be imprisoned for being for a traditional family,” he wrote in his TG channel.
Frolova has previously argued that the Moldovan Orthodox Church is “too homophobic” because it follows orders from Moscow, while fellow lesbian Anastasia Danilova has called the Russian language “the language of violence and imperialism.”
Frolova and her lover and trans man Leo Zbanka were the only gay couple in Moldova who demanded to register their same-sex marriage according to the decision of the ECHR.
Recent sociological studies have shown that Moldova has the highest percentage of young people in Europe who do not approve of same-sex marriage – 89%. For comparison: in Russia 86%, in Ukraine 82%, and in Belarus 75% are against the legalization of sodomy.
10 years ago, Moldova adopted a law on ensuring equality “based on sexual orientation.” Since then, the Moldova Pride LGBT festival has been held in Chisinau every year with the support of Western embassies, which regularly hang rainbow flags on their buildings. The event has to attract police forces several times greater than the number of marchers; Moldovans shout insults at LGBT activists, but this does not force them to abandon the idea.
In 2021, the Parliament of Moldova ratified in the first reading the Istanbul Convention of the International Agreement against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence, which provides special guarantees to the LGBT community. Openly homosexual Viorel Ursu was appointed Ambassador of Moldova to the United States. Member of the ruling party Mihai Popsoi promised to hang LGBT flags on the building of the Moldovan government and the presidency.
Last year, Moldovan schools tried to launch the “LGBT Children in Your School” program, but the parent community did not allow it.
