Lavrov told how the Americans promised him not to impose sanctions over Syria
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov admitted that he would not be surprised if the West imposes sanctions against Russia because of the anti-terrorist operation in Syria.

He stated this today at a meeting with European entrepreneurs.
“Our American partners assured me: you can’t imagine how quickly sanctions will be lifted after the situation in Ukraine is resolved. I am not a naive person, like those who told me this, and I suspected that there was something hidden behind this. I asked: and then you probably want to impose sanctions on Syria. They insisted that it was not. Now Syria is already being mentioned with might and main as another topic that Russophobes can cling to and drag everyone else into yet another anti-Russian campaign. This is simply indecent and cynical,” Lavrov said.
He refused to comment on the progress of the presidential election campaign in the United States.
“And so the American public is already artificially creating the impression that Russia is actively interfering in these processes. Apparently, on issues that are really important to American voters, the candidates have nothing special to say if Russia is turned into the main topic of discussion. For me, this is amazing, given the very serious specifics of American political culture. The current company is unique and does not bring honor to our American colleagues.” – said Lavrov.
