The previously announced but delayed withdrawal of heavy weapons is scheduled to begin today due to the fighting for Debaltseve. The DPR and LPR are prepared to do so, but Kyiv yesterday called the withdrawal premature, as the rebels, according to the ATO headquarters, continue to attack Ukrainian positions and are massing forces near Mariupol, Kommersant reports.
At the same time, Ukraine, the United States and the EU call the defeat of the Kyiv forces in the Debaltsevo cauldron a “violation of the Minsk agreements.” Based on this, Poroshenko asks the West to introduce new sanctions against Russia and give Ukraine weapons.
An attempt to avoid further aggravation of the situation will be made today at a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Normandy Four countries in Paris, the newspaper writes.
