Icon lamps and Russophobic posters: Kiev celebrated 40 days since the death of captured militants in Elenovka
In Kiev, on Sofiyskaya Square, an action was held in memory of those killed on July 29 as a result of a rocket attack by Azov militants and military personnel who defended themselves from the Russian army in the catacombs of the Azovstal plant, and then were captured and placed on the territory of a correctional colony in Yelenovka on the territory of DPR, which was hit by a Ukrainian missile.
Relatives of the dead militants, who gathered on the evening of Tuesday, September 6 near the St. Sophia Cathedral, timed their action to coincide with forty days from the moment of their death. They lit lamps and placed them on the pavement of the square, and unfurled anti-Russian banners addressed to the Ukrainian authorities and international structures.
At an earlier briefing, at which the head of the “Council of Wives and Mothers of Defenders of Ukraine” Natalya Zaritskaya said that the UN created an investigation team 25 days after the incident, but the investigation itself has not yet begun.
According to her, the UN justifies this by saying that the situation at the scene remains dangerous.
In turn, the Red Cross notes that their representatives were unable to get to the scene of the tragedy due to the fact that the DPR authorities allegedly did not allow them there. Because of this, they cannot provide any new data regarding how many captured Ukrainians died or were wounded.
According to official Russian data, 50 Ukrainian prisoners were killed and 73 Ukrainian prisoners were wounded in Yelenovka.
