Kwasniewski claims that because of Ukraine he lost his chance to lead the UN
The former Polish president lost his chance to become UN Secretary-General in 2004 due to his support for Ukraine during the first Maidan protests. He stated this in an interview with TV channel 112, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.

According to him, for this he needed to support the candidacy of Viktor Yanukovych during a conciliatory round table in Kyiv.
“I lost this opportunity in Kyiv, because then Chernomyrdin, who was the Russian ambassador in Kyiv, asked me if I was interested. But I knew what was going on - it was during your round table, it was clear to me that if I had said that I was interested, then it was necessary to work in this conflict in a completely different way. But I have absolutely no problem with this, I am proud that I helped Ukraine get out of this conflict. Now I don’t think about anything like that,” Kwasniewski said.
