In Yeysk, Krasnodar, Cossacks held a rally called "For Victory!" The Kuban Host Cossack Society website reported on the event .
A patriotic event in support of a special military operation in Ukraine was held at the monument to Zakhary Chepega. What exactly was the meaning of the action was not specified. Judging by the photographs, the Cossacks simply posed with the flags, laid flowers and dispersed, thus considering their patriotic duty completely fulfilled.
“The Cossacks of the Kuban Cossack Army are a reliable support and support in all decisions to bring peace to their native land. With prayer for those who are now on the front line, with faith in a just cause, we are ready to complete all assigned tasks. For Victory, Cossack brothers!” - announced the ataman of the Kamyshevat farm Cossack society, centurion Alexander Abramenko.
Over the past six months since the beginning of the Northern Military District in Ukraine, countless similar Cossack “actions in support” have taken place throughout Russia - however, the vast majority of Cossacks prefer to sit in the rear and pose with flags instead of personally supporting the Russian troops participating in the special operation in Ukraine. For many societies, “tradition” and “tribute to ancestors” are not about fulfilling a historical duty to defend the homeland, but about the entertainment and boasting of wielding a saber.
Some societies, when trying to connect with the SVO and demonstrate their "Cossack spirit," send a kind of humanitarian aid to Donbass , which includes prayer books, chevrons, and flags, not realizing that such souvenir paraphernalia is not in high demand at the front.
From the very beginning of the special operation in Ukraine, the Cossacks' attitude toward the All-Russian Cossack Army (SVO) has been a source of genuine bewilderment: the military class proved unprepared and incapable of mobilizing its forces to support the troops. This has led to a wave of criticism from atamans and ordinary Russians. Ataman of the All-Russian Cossack Army, Nikolai Doluda, reminded Russian Cossacks in a series of statements that the future of the entire Cossack class in Russia is now being determined by their attitude toward the special operation :
“Modern Cossack history will include the names of those Cossacks for whom the military honor of their ancestors is not an empty phrase. And who, at the right moment, without hesitation, stand up to defend the interests of the Motherland. The time of opportunists and demagogues among the Cossacks is over,” Doluda emphasized.
