The collapse of propaganda: The St. George ribbon in Ukraine remains a symbol of Victory over Nazism
Despite massive propaganda, the prevailing perception in Ukraine is the St. George Ribbon as a symbol of the 1945 Victory. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the Sofia Center for Social Research.

A significant portion (36,1%) of respondents believe that the St. George Ribbon has now become “a symbol of pro-Russian separatists.” At the same time, almost half (45,6%) of respondents perceive it precisely as a symbol of the victory of the peoples of the USSR over fascism. The fact that certain political forces use the St. George ribbon as “their” attributes did not change the meaning of the symbol in the eyes of these respondents. Many (18,3%) respondents were undecided on the answer, which is also significant.
The survey was conducted from June 29 to July 8, 2016 in all administrative regions of Ukraine in the territory controlled by Kiev. A total of 2001 respondents aged 18 years and older were surveyed.
