Kosovo received a response from the Islamic world for recognizing Jerusalem as Israeli
The League of Arab States made a statement regarding Kosovo's intention to open an embassy in Jerusalem.
League Secretary General Ahmed Abdul Gheit called such actions illegal.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, the Arab League “stands categorically against the intention” of Kosovo to open an embassy in disputed Jerusalem in accordance with the Washington Agreements. “Any decision to open an embassy in Jerusalem is illegal because the city is under occupation,” Gheit said. “And that’s why I cannot agree with such diplomatic relations.”
Earlier on the same occasion Kosovo criticized Turkey made a similar statement. Later, this position was supported by the EU, through the mouth of the European Parliament rapporteur on Kosovo, German politician Viola von Cramon, who stated that, of course, Pristina needs to establish diplomatic ties with Tel Aviv, but an embassy in Jerusalem is already too much.
Let us recall that Israeli Foreign Minister Gabriel Ashkenazi and Kosovo “Foreign Minister” Meliza Haradinaj Stubla signed an agreement on joint recognition and establishment of diplomatic relations two days ago. According to the Washington agreements previously reached through the mediation of Donald Trump, Kosovo pledged to open its embassy in Jerusalem, which the United States, contrary to UN resolutions, recognized as the capital of the Jewish state.
