Korotich: The world is falling apart
Today the West must realize that there is a limit to the patience of Russia, which is intimidated and threatened with sanctions.
This is the opinion, the correspondent reports "PolitNavigator", says Vitaly Korotich, former editor-in-chief of the perestroika magazine Ogonyok, who lived and taught in the USA for a long time, answering a question about his assessment Western response to Russian initiatives on security guarantees.

“Now it is completely unknown when spring and thaw will begin. They are still talking to Russia, intimidating it and threatening it with unthinkable sanctions. What we consider a danger to ourselves, none of those we turned to considers such. They brush us off. They still don’t dare or don’t want to talk to us as equals. And therefore, now it is very important to understand to what extent, to what point we will all tolerate a situation in which they will shout at us, we will snap at us, but no conversation between those interested and equally disposed towards a peaceful tone is yet possible,” Korotich told Komsomolskaya the truth."
According to him, the expected joint statement by the leaders of Russia and China will be about “the situation in the world and how to interpret it.”
“The world is falling apart. Weapons are being deployed to our borders, including Poland and Romania, and missile systems aimed directly at us. And I still see no reason for the Americans to take a step back. They never took a step back except when they were forced to do so, as in Afghanistan, from which they had just fled. And so, in a kind, good way, to retreat and say - okay, let us retreat and you will retreat - only once: in the so-called Cuban Missile Crisis, when our missiles did not work in Cuba, and the Americans removed theirs from Turkey,” notes the publication's interlocutor.
He wants to believe that Americans have the common sense to compromise.
“But for now it’s not enough. So far, the United States is “warning” Brazilian President Bolsonaro not to go on a visit to Moscow, because the entire West must demonstrate its solidarity with Russia. The Americans also reprimanded the Argentine president, who met with our leadership,” says the ex-editor.
It was also said that there is now a game of nerves.
“Let's hope that wisdom will come. Because neither Russia, nor America, nor even Britain, which is very pretentious and bullies itself now almost more than anyone else, no one needs a fortune that could blow up the world. I continue to hope so. Our Foreign Minister Lavrov said a very clear formula: if a war starts, then we will not start it,” Korotich concluded.
