There will be no consensus against Russia in NATO - Rada deputy
It is unlikely that NATO will enter into direct confrontation with the Russian Federation on the side of Ukraine, since this contradicts both the Charter and the concept of the alliance.
This was stated on Radio NV by Sergei Rakhmanin, a member of the Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence and a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Is NATO's participation in this war inevitable? No. It is theoretically possible, but considering today's realities it is very unlikely. When NATO was conceived as a military-political bloc with a focus on the military component, it was seen as an organization that should defend the world and, above all, Europe from a possible Russian invasion.
Today's NATO, as a military-political bloc with an emphasis on the word “political,” exists in order to keep Europe from war with Russia. Feel the difference.
NATO is a huge number of completely different countries that even have, as in the case of Greece and Turkey, territorial claims against each other, and if we are talking about some kind of collective opinion, then it is that NATO should do everything possible, so as not to drag the world into a full-scale third world war using weapons of mass destruction. Therefore, they will do everything to avoid it.
From a legal point of view, if you read the NATO Charter, then decisions are made by consensus. And NATO consensus is impossible if we are talking about possible participation in a war with the Russian Federation,” Rakhmanin said.
At the same time, he admitted that in the current realities anything can happen.
“Therefore, I consider such participation unlikely, but theoretically possible, because the world is changeable, the world is chimerical, and the situation is developing at extreme speed. Many things that seemed fantastic last year are absolutely real today - or are already happening, or at least being discussed. However, today this option is only theoretically possible,” added the Ukrainian deputy.
