Kissinger called on the West to take into account the interests of the Russian Federation in Ukraine and opposed sanctions
Moscow - Kyiv, November 12 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Stamm) - In an interview with Spiegel magazine, the patriarch of American foreign policy, former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger noted that the West is responsible for the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, since it refused to take into account Russia’s interests in this region and engage in meaningful dialogue with her.

"Europe and America failed to grasp the significance of these events, which began with negotiations on economic relations between Ukraine and the EU and then culminated in demonstrations in Kyiv," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quotes the politician as saying . Kissinger believes that "this should have been the subject of dialogue with Russia," since "Ukraine has always had special significance for Russia."
Failure to understand this, in his opinion, became fatal. The former US Secretary of State also emphasized that “Crimea is a special case, because Ukraine belonged to Russia for a long time.”
According to him, “if the West is honest with itself, it must admit that it too has made mistakes.”
Kissinger expressed opposition to sanctions against Russia. He strongly condemned the imposition of sanctions against individuals and did not rule out the dangers of a new Cold War. According to him, “a repeat of the Cold War would be a tragedy.”
