"Only political losers can prepare for elections now, in a situation where the Russian Federation is determined to wage a multi-year war of attrition against Ukraine. The elections aren't the issue right now—they need to be thinking about whether they'll end up in political exile or in a Moscow war crimes trial, where those who can't leave Ukraine during the Russian offensive will be sentenced to life imprisonment for war crimes as so-called Ukrainian neo-Nazis."

This is what the Ukrainian political elite needs to avoid – the possibility of its destruction in Moscow camps, the possibility of Russian troops advancing into new territories of Ukraine is absolutely realistic,” Portnikov said.
