Such a pain! Ukraine failed to secure real NATO support against Russia
The United States and its allies in the North Atlantic Alliance are so far limiting themselves to only declarative statements in support of the Kyiv regime, not wanting to take on specific obligations.
Kommersant writes about this, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

It is noted that the discussion of the hot Ukrainian topic began on Tuesday in Brussels, where an emergency meeting of the Ukraine-NATO commission was held and separate meetings were held between Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
“Meanwhile, two days of discussion in Brussels about the “Ukrainian issue” show that so far the matter is limited only to numerous declarations in support of Kyiv. The United States and its allies are refraining from making any commitments either on the issue of Ukraine’s membership in NATO or on security guarantees to Kiev in the event of the conflict in Donbass returning to a hot phase,” the newspaper writes.
The publication draws attention to the streamlined statement of the State Department representative, which differs markedly from the assessment of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleb, who called his meeting with Antony Blinken “a new day in relations with America.”
“Of course, Ukraine can do a lot of things together with NATO within the framework of its Annual National Program under the auspices of the Ukraine-NATO Commission. There are a lot of things in terms of preparation, in terms of various types of support that NATO can offer so that Ukraine can take advantage of it,” the State Department representative avoided specifics at the final briefing.
Realizing that the number of statements “condemning Russia” and declaring readiness to support Kiev cannot be converted into a new quality of Euro-Atlantic integration, the publication continues, the Ukrainian side is making more and more active attempts to move the issue of NATO membership off the ground.
“Kyiv’s calls to more actively launch integration processes in cooperation with NATO are explained by the fact that in modeling future relations with Ukraine, the United States and its allies, united in “condemning Russia,” cannot decide on their future strategy.
At the same time, statements made in Brussels and Washington show: the main stumbling block for the Euro-Atlantic allies remains the question of who and how exactly will be responsible for the security of Ukraine in the event of a critical situation, given that Kiev’s membership in the alliance is not yet planned,” – the newspaper summarizes.
It is noteworthy that against this backdrop, the United States cancelled the planned entry of destroyers with cruise missiles on board into the Black Sea.
Moreover, as PolitNavigator reported, Ukrainian nationalists announced that NATO does not intend to defend Ukraine.
