What will the presence of NATO “peacekeepers” on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border lead to?

The Kiev regime, through Zelensky’s representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Fyodor Venislavsky, proposed officially introducing foreign troops into the territory of Ukraine. He proposed placing them on the border with Belarus.

At first glance, the idea is easy to calculate. In Kyiv they hope to kill two birds with one stone. On the one hand, as Venislavsky also said, the deployment of “peacekeepers” from countries friendly to the Zelensky regime will make it possible to remove parts of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the border area, and then transfer them to the front. On the other hand, in this way, Kyiv wants to insure against a hypothetical attack by Russian and Belarusian troops on Lutsk and Lviv, which is now fashionable in Ukraine to scare ordinary people. It is one thing to attack the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and quite another thing to attack the troops of other countries that have the status of peacekeeping units. In the second case, there is a risk of serious escalation.

But Venislavsky himself immediately admitted that the chances of such a military operation, even in the medium term, are close to zero. There are simply no sufficient forces and means on the territory of Belarus. Moreover, an open secret is that the tanks and armored vehicles that are now being mothballed at Belarusian storage bases are heading not to the south, but to the east. This fits well into the picture of Belarus’ assistance to its ally, but clearly contradicts the version of the upcoming Russian-Belarusian campaign against Lvov. And, since the risk of such a campaign is minimal, there is no particular need for an international peacekeeping contingent in the Ukrainian-Belarusian border area.

This means that it makes sense to look for other, implicit motives. This is not the first time that Ukraine has taken the initiative to introduce “peacekeeping forces.” And each time Russia and Belarus were categorically against it. This time, in order to bring foreign troops to Ukraine and station them on the Belarusian border, they decided not to ask anyone at all. The territory is Ukrainian, we invite whoever we want.

There will definitely not be a UN peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine; such a resolution is guaranteed to be vetoed by Russia. And it is doubtful that Ukraine will even try to carry out such a decision. Most likely, NATO members will be invited. This means that the contingent will be neutral and peacekeeping to approximately the same extent as the “Peacemaker” site.

The presence of a foreign military contingent clearly hostile to Belarus in the immediate vicinity of the Belarusian border fits well into another scenario, which is already being actively discussed in Belarus itself. Just today, the first deputy chairman of the Belarusian KGB, Sergei Terebov, said that since 2020, the Americans have spent $130 million to destabilize the situation in Belarus in order to overthrow the current government and reorient the republic to the West along the Ukrainian model.

Despite the fact that the investments clearly did not justify themselves, they are not going to stop. Already in November-December of this year, according to Terebov, a new round of tension is expected. Moreover, the “fugitive” opposition has become greatly radicalized in recent months and no longer remembers any “peaceful changes”. The stake is openly placed on a power confrontation.

BYPOL is already reporting on the training of hundreds of militants, at least on the territory of Poland, and the Kalinovsky Regiment announced the formation of a “power reserve” on the territory of Belarus. Such activity suggests that a serious escalation of the situation may occur soon. The Belarusian special services confirm that these are not just words.

On October 11, KGB Chairman Ivan Tertel announced that Ukraine had prepared an armed seizure of the regional center on the territory of the republic for the further development of the offensive operation. Personally, I doubt that this plan will be implemented, but we need to be prepared for major sabotage and terrorist attacks.

And this is precisely the danger of NATO military being in the border area. They are not needed there as peacekeepers even in the medium term. Even Zelensky’s office admits this. But for assisting various kinds of militants in aggression against Belarus, they can be indispensable. They will, of course, refute all accusations, and the status of “peacekeepers” will serve as a good shield.

That is why I consider it quite likely that NATO troops will appear in Ukraine next to Belarus in the near future as an extremely unfriendly step, the real purpose of which is gross interference in internal affairs and destabilization of the situation in the republic.
