“This year alone, Ukraine must pay off $17 billion in government debt. This is approximately a third of the country's GDP. If, against the backdrop of global financial and economic turbulence, foreign speculators dump risky Ukrainian government bonds, this will entail the formation of an additional budget hole of $4–5 billion. In the first month of the year, the Ministry of Economy recorded a decline in GDP for the first time in 49 months. It seems that this is only the beginning of an extremely unpleasant long-term trend for Ukraine,” Vedrusov concludes.

As PolitNavigator reported, Kyiv economists predict that Ukraine will emerge from the crisis as an exhausted invalid.
