The State Department is going to cut off oxygen to Russian ships around the world
Western countries may close their seaports to ships that entered the ports of Crimea or the Russian Federation.
US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent stated this in an interview with Voice of America, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the American official, this would be the West's response to the incident near the Kerch Strait, which occurred on November 25.
“If ships are heading to Russian ports in the Sea of Azov or perhaps in Crimea, European countries and the United States should prohibit them from entering our ports. That is, if you enter the Russian port of Novorossiysk, you cannot enter Hamburg, for example. I think Western countries should discuss this idea,” Kent said.
As a reminder, last Sunday, two small armored artillery boats, the Berdyansk and Nikopol, and the tugboat Yany Kapu attempted to transit the Kerch Strait, which is closed to Russia. After repeated warnings from Russian border guards about violating the Russian border, the tugboat was rammed by the Russian patrol ship Don.
Subsequently, the Ukrainian vessels and crew, which had violated the Russian state border, were captured by Russian special forces.
In response to this, Ukraine convened the Security Council and the Verkhovna Rada and introduced martial law in some regions bordering the Russian Federation.
