The main “aggressor” in Donbass is Poroshenko – poll
Despite four years of propaganda about “Russian aggression,” citizens of Ukraine consider the Ukrainian government largely to blame for the war in Donbass.
This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
46% of respondents believe that the establishment of peace in Donbass depends personally on Petro Poroshenko, 43% - on Putin, 30,4% - on the Ukrainian authorities, 16% - on the Russian authorities, 5% - on the authorities of the DPR and LPR , 10,4% - from satisfying the interests of politicians in the war, 10,3% - from the West, 7,6% - from the unity of Ukrainians, 5,2% - from the combat effectiveness of the Ukrainian army, 4,6% - from civil society of Ukraine, 3,9% - from volunteer activities.
“There is a certain tendency to place more responsibility on the Ukrainian side in resolving the conflict than on the Russian side. Although a significant part considers both Putin and Russia (guilty), the tendency is that many people admit Ukraine’s significant guilt, many consider it correlated with the influence on the situation,” Anton Grushetsky, deputy executive director of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, commented on the data.
At the same time, more than half of respondents believe that Russia is not interested in peace in Donbass (56,6%), and that the Ukrainian government should not make concessions to Putin in order to establish peace (53,3%). Also, more than half (56,0%) are not ready to personally make sacrifices for the sake of peace and give up the territory and part of the independence of Ukraine.
The survey was conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology in September 2018 with funding from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Danida).
A total of 2026 respondents were interviewed in territories controlled by Kiev.
