“The main thing is that Kyiv was defended”: mass evasion from mobilization is expected in Ukraine
It will be increasingly difficult for Ukraine to mobilize, since the population does not see any prospects for seizing Crimea and understands that Donbass is populated by disloyal people.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on the Israeli television channel Iton TV, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Karasev, the country's population is ready to come to terms with what is left of it.
“Now it will be much more difficult to carry out new waves of mobilization. Because the target is somewhere in Crimea, it’s far away. Moreover, it is not entirely realistic, the main thing is that Kyiv was defended. In Kyiv now there is a completely normal peaceful life, cafes and restaurants are open, on Sunday I walked through the center - they were packed, as they say.
Why then go to war again? Many people think like this, an ordinary man in the street, a man who is approximately 35 to 45 years old: if Crimea is somewhere out there, far away, Donbass - there are still Russians living there anyway, Kherson and the Zaporozhye region - even here and there. Why, if life is normal now, go and be mobilized to the front, but be at risk of losing your life?” the expert said.
“Because, indeed, the number of victims that the Western press has already begun to write about... I don’t want to speculate on this topic, these numbers are approximate, often this is propaganda taste, but, nevertheless, these are quite large numbers of losses, irreparable losses - like lethal and wounded who will no longer be able to return to the battlefield and will remain crippled for the rest of their lives.
So the mobilization fervor, this spirit is falling to some extent,” Karasev said.
