Heroes are scared: Ukrainians realized that fighting with Donbass is dangerous
Almost 10% of Ukrainians support the independence of the Donbass republics or their inclusion in Russia. At the same time, only up to 20% of the population crave forceful development of the situation

Irina Bekeshkina, director of the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation, announced this at a press conference in Kyiv, as reported by PolitNavigator . She also emphasized that Ukrainians' belligerence noticeably declines as they approach the front line.
“Only 18% are ready to establish peace in Donbass by force. This is also a very important result. What’s interesting, and this is a general trend, is that the further from the front, the more militancy grows. The closer to the front, the more people agree to more peaceful measures,” Bekeshkina said.
She also added that every fifth respondent expressed support for expanding the powers of the republics within the Independent Republic.
“We asked how people see the political future of the occupied territories, the so-called DPR/LPR. It is worth saying that the number of those who do not want to provide these territories with some kind of autonomy is growing - 55% of Ukrainians see them as part of Ukraine on pre-war conditions, that is, as they previously had the status of regions. Another every fifth respondent is inclined to grant these territories a greater level of autonomy, but within Ukraine. And 9% in Ukraine as a whole supported the independent existence of these territories, either as part of the structure they exist today, or their annexation to Russia,” the sociologist noted.
