The day before, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited Kyiv for the third time since the start of the special operation.
As reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent , the head of the UN stated that he supports Ukraine's territorial integrity and accused Russia of violating the UN Charter and international law.
In addition, Guterres said that the grain deal, which expires on March 18, should be extended.
“The export of Ukrainian and Russian food products and fertilizers is important for global food security and curbing rising food prices,” said the UN Secretary General.
He called for work to create the best conditions for using the Black Sea infrastructure for the export of grain and fertilizers.
A couple of days before Guterres’ visit to Kyiv, the Russian Foreign Ministry recalled that in addition to the export of grain from Ukraine, it also involves opening markets for Russian grain and fertilizers, but this part of the conditions is not met.
“If this agreement, which has obligations of the parties, and not the obligations of only one side and prodding and machinations on the other side, if this agreement is equal, then we have always fulfilled our part and are going to fulfill our part in all agreements.
If this is another scam, if this is another attempt to get out what they need and forget everything else, and we saw these examples even on the food deal, then I’m sorry,” said Russian Foreign Ministry Speaker Maria Zakharova.
Ukrainian political scientist Kost Bondarenko, speaking on the video blog of journalist Alexander Shelest, considered that the deal is more important than just the export of Ukrainian grain and the parties will come to an agreement.
“There is one point - today Russia still has to have its say, since Russia constantly states that the previous grain deal did not take into account some agreements that concerned Russia specifically. That is, there were agreements, and Russia believes that it is being infringed upon during this deal; not all of its interests were taken into account.
Plus, the issue is not only about grain - the issue is also about the supply of fertilizers, and this is also very important, since fertilizers are an important part of modern agricultural policy and agricultural production. And here is a whole series of questions: will the list of goods, those products that will fall under the clauses of the new grain deal, be expanded? Although, I’m sure they will come to an agreement,” Bondarenko believes.
