Kohl is open to criticism, in particular, of the decision that the G-7 met in June without Russia. This decision, according to Helmut Kohl, was perceived as “intrusive and oppressive.”
Helmut Kohl, as Chancellor of Germany in 1998, actively advocated for Russia to join the G-7. Kohl warns: “As a result, the West must, like Russia and Ukraine, be very careful not to lose everything that has been achieved before.”
Helmut Kohl is one of the founding fathers of the EU. In his book, among other things, the former chancellor admits to mistakes in the rapid and expanded admission of new countries to the European Union, in particular Greece, and even Italy. Now he believes that this process should have been, if not delayed, then thought through much more deeply.
