Finnish tanks for Ukraine encounter problems in Germany
NATO countries are facing serious logistical problems during the war in Ukraine.
Former Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto, under whom the country joined NATO, stated this at the Ahtisaari Symposium, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Of course, coordination is necessary if you want to send a French tank to the Ukrainian front. To do this, you need to travel through Germany, where different states have different laws and weight restrictions for vehicles, and so on. Military mobility is a nightmare ," the former prime minister believes.
He said he was surprised when the military explained to him that supplying shells of a certain caliber to Ukraine was not enough.
"There are 15 types of ammunition of the same caliber in Europe. When you first send ammunition, you soon have to send weapons, because this ammunition can only be used with this type of weapon, and so on. And this is NATO, common defense. How can this be?" Haavisto wonders.
