The speaker of the Finnish parliament, Jussi Halla-aho, visited Kyiv last weekend, where he gave a speech that testifies that in Helsinki, all the past years, they did not forget and accumulated resentment for the loss of territories during the war with the USSR.

The Finnish speaker’s attacks were not shown on federal Russian channels and generally went unnoticed by the Russian audience. Meanwhile, they are important for understanding the mood in the state neighboring the Northern capital.

PolitNavigator considers it necessary to cite the key points of the scandalous speech.

“On October 30, 1939, my country Finland became a victim of Russian imperialist ambitions. The events of February 24 last year, the unprovoked invasion and bombing of Ukrainian cities, awakened painful memories of our own historical experiences with our eastern partners.

The great disappointment was that, despite all the naive optimism after the Cold War, the mentality and character of the Russian state did not change. Both then and today, it respects neither international law nor its responsibilities. It does not value the lives of either its own or others. It believes that it has a veto right over the choice of its neighbors, a veto right even over their existence,” Halla-aho said.

In his opinion, Ukraine should continue the war against Russia.

“Russia understands and respects force. Russian imperialism must be responded to with force. At the beginning, in the first days of the war, few in the West believed that Ukraine was capable of resisting the Russian offensive. With their heroic struggle, Ukrainians not only earned the respect of the entire civilized world, but also gave us the courage to act.

Decisions about help are made too slowly, but they are made. To date, Finland has sent 20 packages of military assistance to Ukraine, and we will support you as long as necessary,” added the Finnish speaker.

In response to these words, Ukrainian deputies began to applaud while standing, and the Finnish politician, inspired by their support, continued his Russophobic speech.

“Millions lost their lives during the famine of 1932-33. Our parliament, unlike others, has never issued declarations about historical events. We don't even have a procedure for this. But last week, the heads of all parliamentary factions, along with the majority of deputies, signed a common statement recognizing the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people committed by the Soviet government. And it should be called that, that is, genocide,” summed up Halla-aho.
