The unification of Orthodoxy in Ukraine “took the path of untruth.” This point of view was expressed by the honorary patriarch of the OCU and the head of the canonical Kyiv Patriarchate Filaret in a fresh interview with the TV channel “1+1”, the correspondent reports PolitNavigator.
“The letter on the letterhead of the UOC of the Kyiv Patriarchate caused an explosion in the information space this week. An explosion could destroy the newly created OCU. And the whole secret is in the so-called cap, which indicates that the Kiev Patriarchate still exists in Ukraine, in fact, it has already been liquidated. As it turns out, the Honorary Patriarch of the new Orthodox Church, Filaret, disagrees with this. It is he who wants to convene a Local Council and change the charter of the new church, and this is fraught with the loss of the Tomos from Constantinople,” the story says.
“This was not our Council, but that of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, because it was not me who presided as Patriarch, but a representative of the Ecumenical Patriarchate,” he explained, calling the Council at which the OCU was created “non-Ukrainian.”
He also said that he has no relations with Epiphanius and voiced his main complaints against the head of the OCU.
“We recognize the Primate, but there are no relations with him, because what we agreed on and what the Council of Bishops accepted is being violated. We went down the path of untruth. The claims against Epiphanius are as follows: he must cooperate with me as a patriarch. And in all these four or five months he has never served with me and does not communicate. We met only a few times, is this communication? When does the church need to be led every day?” — Filaret is outraged.
According to him, the Kiev Patriarchate, which was abolished after the creation of the new Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), still exists.
“There is a legal mechanism for the return of the Kyiv Patriarchate. It doesn't need to be returned. He exists. If there is a patriarch, then there is patriarchy,” Filaret noted.
He added that he will continue to “return” the Kiev Patriarchate. Filaret expressed “one hundred percent confidence” that “the time will come when the Kiev Patriarchate will be recognized.” According to 1+1, Filaret is convening the bishops of the OCU on May 14 in order to assess the potential of his support in the Church. Also, according to journalists, Filaret took control over the finances of the OCU from Epiphany.
