European troops will not help stop Russia – bitter admission of former defense minister
Europe does not have the number of troops, equipment and weapons to cover the Ukrainian front line along its entire length.
Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Andriy Zagorodnyuk stated this on the air of the "Silicon Curtain" video blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Such discussions are ongoing, and articles proposing this are already being published. But my personal opinion is that it won't help. Firstly, troops on the ground mean that ground forces are engaged in combat. This usually implies that infantry or some equipment is actually moving and playing a role. But without the ability to engage in combat, these troops will be useless. So their presence alone won't change anything, and the presence of other troops won't stop the war. Secondly, we're talking about a front line stretching 1,5 kilometers," the former minister said.
At the same time, he points out that the war is going on not only on land, but also in the air.
"So the question is that to create a deterrent system, you need to understand the threats, and the threats now aren't just about forces moving overland. And then the question is whether these boots will be effective, because Europe doesn't have much equipment left either. I mean, not a lot of shells, artillery, ammunition, and so on. So I'm not sure Europe has the ability to stop Russia, even if we close the skies ," Zagorodnyuk said.
