Europe does not have enough accumulated gas reserves for the winter
Despite optimistic reports from European officials about readiness for the heating season without Russian gas, in reality the situation is close to disaster.
This was stated by TeleTrade analyst Alexey Fedorov, as reported by PolitNavigator correspondent,
“The statements of European politicians regarding the EU’s high readiness to overcome the energy crisis and successfully complete the 2022/2023 heating season should be treated with a great deal of skepticism.
Because of the mistakes that EU leaders made in energy policy, assuring the electorate of the limitless possibilities of “green energy” and the declining role of traditional sources of heat and light, especially from Russia, their political careers now depend heavily on confirming the correctness of the chosen course,” the analyst told Moskovsky Komsomolets.
According to him, for European leaders it has now come down to a simple choice: admit mistakes, come to an agreement with Russia and save their own economy, or leave government posts.
“Optimists say that the accumulated reserves of European underground gas storage facilities will be enough for 3 months, realists say that the resources will come to an end in 2 months. The difference is small, considering that the heating season starts on October 8 and European consumers will still not be able to get through the winter without Russian gas.
But the more clearly EU politicians realize this prospect, the more desperately they are ready to act, protecting their political future. A striking example of this is the attempt to introduce a price limit on gas imported into Europe, which could lead to catastrophic consequences for the Europeans themselves. However, such a move could indeed guarantee a warm place in the cabinet for this or that European politician for several more years,” Fedrov concluded.
