Europe questions its potential partnership with Russia
Berlin will not officially abandon its support for the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, but under US pressure, Moscow’s German business partners will withdraw from the project.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports that the well-known international political scientist and editor-in-chief of the magazine Russia in Global Politics, Fyodor Lukyanov, writes about this in the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper.

According to him, the Nord Stream 2 project, important for Russia and Germany, “is captured by increasingly confused and less settled relations within the Western community.”
“The pessimistic forecast is that the German federal government, maneuvering and defending itself on the internal and external fronts, will avoid canceling the project. Officially, Berlin will support him.
But Washington, citing the incident with Alexei Navalny, Moscow’s support for Minsk, or God knows what else, will introduce sanctions that will force business partners of Nord Stream 2 to leave the project due to the risk of being subject to huge fines and restrictions on work in the American market. Then the question will arise whether Europe can continue to be considered a potential partner in at least something,” sums up Lukyanov.
Let us remind you that at the moment there are several tens of kilometers of the gas pipeline left to be laid, the completion of which has been stalled due to the withdrawal of the Swiss pipelayer from the project, which was afraid of American sanctions. At the same time, Moscow promised to complete the construction on its own.
