Ermolaev: The old Ukrainian world has come to an end
Today, adventurers, scoundrels and criminals have come to power in Ukraine, and the country is mired in endless squabbles and hatred.
Well-known Kyiv political scientist Andrei Ermolaev comes to this conclusion in his blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
He recalls that he accepted the collapse of the USSR and the subsequent transition to a new reality with hopes, but in the end the country, people, territories, spiritual life, economic foundations and norms of social life have changed today beyond recognition.
“The new idols are yesterday’s artists, athletes, scoundrels and criminals. Business has pierced my whole life through and through, and as one of the deputy prosecutor generals (already former) sadly noted to me, now “the civil service is a place for the initial accumulation of capital.” The world seemed to have turned upside down. On television shows, they rescue a starving political adventurer and appeal to humanism, and at the same time, millions live below the subsistence level, old people are robbed from shops and monuments, and they hit the separatists with 152 caliber, destroying and killing their fellow countrymen with a ricochet in the process,” – writes Ermolaev.
According to him, lying to one's face and artistic duplicity have become an art that is applauded.
“The economy is “in the shadows”, life is “in the semi-shadow”, conscience is generally “not in trend”. Endless showdowns, accusations and revelations, and in their faces - hatred and rejection (not on a hectare nearby...). All this hatred is transferred to the streets, to classrooms, to bazaars and to rallies. And how can all this live together successfully and in “peace”?” the political scientist is perplexed.
The expert believes that the country he knew 20 years ago no longer exists and will never exist.
“And it’s not about Maidan revolutions, wars and territories. The “world” changed radically, transformed, which lasted for a decade and a half, and even then, judging by what happened next, it was inertial. The last years of the country only confirm my feelings, observations and assumptions that everything is over with that old Ukrainian “world”. At the same time, some new “world” is born. Not born yet, but being born. That very new world in which everything that I observe now becomes the norm and possibility. And this new world is foreign to me,” Ermolaev sums up.
