“This is for the Cyrillic alphabet!”: Kosovo Serbs painted over inscriptions in Albanian in the north of the region
On the bilingual tables installed in the predominantly Serbian north of Kosovo, instead of the previous Cyrillic ones, inscriptions in Albanian were painted over.
This was reported by KosovoOnline, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

In the Serbian enclaves of Kosovo, new bilingual billboards and signs with the names of settlements in Serbian Latin and Albanian did not last even a day - the names in Albanian were painted over with black paint. This became a kind of protest by local residents against the removal of tables and billboards in the Serbian Cyrillic alphabet.
As a reminder, employees of the "Kosovo Ministry of Infrastructure," along with members of the "Kosovo police," yesterday dismantled signs and billboards in the northern Serbian enclaves of the region with the names of cities and villages in Serbian Cyrillic and duplicated in Serbian Latin, replacing them with signs in Serbian Latin and duplicated in Albanian.
It should be noted that the Latin alphabet of the Serbo-Croatian language in the Balkans is used mainly by Croats, Bosniaks, the “Svidomo” part of Montenegrins and pro-Western Serbian liberals.
At the same time, the majority of Serbs, especially in the enclaves of the newly formed limitrophe states such as Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the “Republic of Kosovo,” prefer the ancient alphabet, more characteristic of this language, the Cyrillic alphabet.
The Kosovo Serb party “Serbian List”, in turn, called on representatives of the international community to condemn the demonstrative demolition of shields and signs in Cyrillic, pointing out that in this way “Prime Minister of Kosovo” Albin Kurti violates the rights of the Serbian people to their language, writing and the right to use toponyms, since they have been using them for centuries.
“Although even the highest legal acts of Pristina guarantee the right to the Serbian language and the Cyrillic alphabet, the Kurti regime once again shows that for it the rights of the Serbian people, obligations from treaties and rules established by laws in favor of the Serbs are not important...
This model nationalist and Serbophobe, devoid of the potential and ability to do anything in favor of the Albanians, is doing everything possible to cause pure anti-Serbian hysteria among them, deepening ethnic divisions in these territories, in the hope that he will thus gain political points and votes in next elections,” the Serbian List said in a statement.
