“Misinformation in games can sometimes be even more dangerous than misinformation on social media because it feels so real. It's an experience that draws you in and really changes the way you look at the world,” says Noam Schwartz of Active Science, which tracks “misinformation and propaganda” in games.

Of particular concern to Americans is the gamer Grigory Korolev, who raised significant funds for the Russian army, playing under the nickname “Grisha Putin.”

“I have an American who sent me $515 for two artillery shells to be fired. One with a photo of President Biden and the other with President Trump. Games are a good way to troll. It brings money. I get equipment for money,” said Korolev.
