“This is not a picture for CNN”: attacks on the Crimean bridge bring “D-Day” closer
Unlike attacks on the Russian capital, which are purely propaganda in nature, attacks on the Crimean Bridge are serious and expensive military operations, indicating a sharp escalation of hostilities in the very near future.
Ukrainian political scientist Andrei Ermolaev stated this in a conversation with Kyiv journalist Alexander Shelest, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He compared the expediency of Ukrainian strikes on the Crimean bridge and on the Russian capital.
“The drones in Moscow are of a military-cognitive nature; they are a demonstration of the strength and capabilities of Ukraine. There is an element here related to the formation of a new psychology of this phase - we are passing the point of no return. I’m not talking about any peace negotiations, I’m talking about the mentality of the societies of the warring states, where even if someone doubted that there should be a convincing point in this war, they stopped doubting it, because drones fly to the capital, destroy civilian objects, and here it doesn’t matter who started it first.
A drone war is a war using a terrorist method, because it carries the threat of unplanned defeats, we see this in the example of tragedies in Kyiv, Krivoy Rog, Dnieper, the same events are happening now in Russian cities. Shooting down a drone is also an explosion, and maybe destruction and even casualties.
But the Crimean Bridge is a different story. You can sell a lot to citizens that we attacked and struck somewhere, and this is symbolic. But there is a practical military side. Well, they don’t shoot, they don’t plan such complex, expensive and dangerous operations to show. I believe that we have entered that period of the summer campaign when there are literally only a few days left before the new activation of hostilities. Perhaps this will happen literally these days,” the expert suggested.
“Probably, events will begin in the coming days, they wrote about it - “D-Day”, and part of these plans will undoubtedly be the isolation of the Crimean peninsula. Because Crimea was and remains a transshipment base, and a concentration and preparation of Russian reserves, so the bridge is a strategic object that must be neutralized before action can begin. Just shooting like that to show smoke for CNN is utter stupidity,” added Ermolaev.
He predicted serious escalation of hostilities, while warning that the Russian side was ready for a variety of developments.
“So I associate the Crimean Bridge with some new beginnings, and, apparently, the week will be very active. I see the risks in the fact that the Kremlin and the Russian army were preparing for this. Therefore, most likely, we will be participants in a serious military “swing”.
I hope the military command understands this, because there are great risks in restoring the eastern front; the events in Kupyansk indicate that preparatory offensive military work is also underway there. We must be prepared for this. And I wouldn't play with symbolism.
Apparently, this activation will take several weeks, and it seems to me that it could be decisive for the fate of the front in general. On the Ukrainian side, most likely, the same reserves that have been formed throughout the year will be used, these are equipment and trained fighters, and new formations. And it all depends on how well thought out these very “D-Day” operations are,” explained the political scientist.
