The press service of the court reported this.
“For the full implementation of the defense, Alexander Efremov will be next to his lawyers at the court hearing. For the sake of fairness, it is worth replacing that this is the first such application of the ECHR practice in Ukrainian courts,” said lawyer Andrey Smirnov.
It is noted that he is participating in the court hearing no longer in custody.
As you know, on January 16, 2017, the Starobelsky court began a preparatory hearing in the case of Efremov. It was decided to provide the defendant with a free defense lawyer in the absence of his lawyers. Efremov refused this, but the court did not satisfy the defendant’s request.
The previous preparatory meeting in the case of ex-leader of the Party of Regions Alexander Efremov in the Starobelsky District Court of the Luhansk region was held behind closed doors due to fears of unrest on the part of nationalists.
Let us remind you that the current Ukrainian government has been politically persecuting Efremov for the third year, accusing him of “supporting separatism” and “creating the LPR.”
