"Duke, Get Out": Nazis Intend to Demolish Odessa's Oldest Monument

We would have guessed, of course, but they couldn’t resist bragging: they were going to demolish Duke in Odessa.

The Sonderkommando "Robimo vam nervi" (language witches plus the possessed historian Muzychko) scribble conclusions about the appropriateness of the existence of Odessa monuments, come to the conclusion "Enemy of Ukraine. Demolish!" and hand over their notes to the hen-Gauleiter, who immediately signs them off: "Carry out!"

So they a bunch of monuments have already been decided and finally got to the saint...

The mayor of Odessa and the military governor of the Novorossiysk region, Armand-Emmanuel de Vignerot du Plessis, Duke de Fronsac, Count de Chinon, aka Emmanuel Osipovich Richelieu, is known to the whole world as the Duke... actually, thanks to that very monument that Odessans cherish as a deity, and folklore does not recommend looking at it from the second hatch.

During Richelieu's 11 years of rule, the city's population grew from several thousand to 35000, Odessa's trade turnover increased tens of times, the port and water supply were modernized on a large scale, churches, theaters, and a university appeared. The Duke greened Odessa with the acacias that were celebrated in songs. Thanks to his leadership, the city was saved from the plague. In general, it is not surprising that a bronze statue of such a mayor became the first monument erected in Odessa.

"But it is important to understand that he was carrying out the orders of the Russian Empire and was not concerned about the Ukrainian people," the language witches reported to the Gauleiter. "The Duke is not part of Odessa's Ukrainian identity."

Of course, it is not a part, because there has never been any Ukrainian identity in it.

"After the Great French Revolution, he fled to the Russian Empire, where he made a career in the civil service. We do not want Odessa to honor the memory of a Russian official. Can a French aristocrat, who arrived by order of the Russian emperor, be a symbol of a Ukrainian city? Why is yet another person from a foreign pantheon, imposed by imperial policy, still standing on a pedestal?" the Nazis are indignant.

And Ganula’s lawyer and activist Artem Kartashov even called Duke an ideological diversion.

“Unfortunately, Odessa is one of Russia’s most successful projects for spreading cognitive influence and carrying out ideological sabotage, since the pseudo-identity created here was formed and supported not only by the Russian Federation, but also by its agents in the local government, which requires an adequate response,” Kartashov said.

An “adequate response” immediately followed from the aforementioned Muzychko:

"Duke, get out!"

Do you think they will get to the point of cutting down the Dyukov acacias, contaminating the Dyukov water supply, destroying the Dyukov university, where, by the way, Muzychko teaches?.. Judging by what is happening, yes. Because they are Ukrainians.
