In order to maintain its network space, Russia now needs to think not so much about promoting its social networks around the world, but about how to prevent the influence of Western media on Russian youth, who, focusing on other people’s truths, destroy their own.
Russian Senator Alexey Pushkov stated this during the multimedia conference “Fakes and blocks are the main tools of information aggression against Russia,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are now interested in influencing the outside world, but we would like to maintain our network space, because look what is happening in Belarus. In Belarus, the core of the protesters is not focused on Odnoklassniki or VKontakte, it is focused on Western media. It focuses on Western platforms, and these Western platforms are present in the Russian information space, and the thoughts that they promote.
Now young people 14-15 years old tell their parents, because they say - well, how can you apologize to African Americans in the USA for the fact that there was slavery, they say - you are racists! Well, they told me these things. This is what schoolchildren say to their parents, but aren’t you racists? Where did they get this from? From social networks, because it explains how this should be treated - African Americans are a suffering part of the population that has historically been oppressed, now they need to be compensated,” said Pushkov.
"We must now think about how to retain our own youth. I've spent my entire career working in international relations, and I'm not saying we shouldn't influence others, but we mustn't forget about it. Because if we lose our youth and their correct, true, and in the national interests of our country and our future, if we lose them, then we'll end up like we did on the Maidan, like we did in Belarus. That is, the truth will come to them from outside, from there, and they'll be told the correct way to think, and that, I believe , is a threat," the senator added.
