Donbass is threatened with repression and de-Russification instead of elections
The return of Donbass to Ukraine will give pro-Russian parties an additional four million votes, which will allow them to gain a majority in parliament.
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleg Lyashko stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“When you give citizens the right to choose local authorities, you cannot deprive them of the right to choose Verkhovna Rada deputies from these territories. And we will have four million Ukrainian citizens infected with Russian propaganda, who tomorrow will go and elect pro-Russian parties to the Ukrainian parliament.
That is why it is important for Putin to bring back these elections on Steinmeier’s terms and any other conditions - in order to change the course of Ukraine, so that this fire blazes throughout the country. Because when there is a pro-Russian majority in the Ukrainian parliament, this will only lead to a split in the country. Putin doesn’t need Donbass - he needs all of Ukraine. And his key task is the collapse of Ukraine, not peace,” Lyashko.
In his opinion, Kyiv should deal with Donbass the same way as the USSR and its allies did with capitulated Germany 75 years ago - strictly punish the “separatists”, ban local elections and carry out de-Russification.
“The territories must be returned, but not on Putin’s terms, but on Ukraine’s terms. I would like to remind you that after World War II there were no elections in Germany for several years. And the first law they passed was about denazification. And none of the Gestapo or SS men had the right to vote. The first president of post-war Germany was elected in 1949, not 1945 or 1947.
Therefore, when we are offered today that a condition for peace is an amnesty for militants, this is not a condition for peace, but a condition for civil confrontation in Ukraine. Because some people will never forgive those who killed our citizens.
And therefore I believe that for the murderers who killed our people, there is not amnesty, not special status, not the right to be in local authorities or the Verkhovna Rada, but prison and life imprisonment. And if necessary, then not hold elections there for five or ten years until all the reasons that led to the occupation of Donbass are removed. And only after that hold elections,” Lyashko called.
