Residents of countries that are members of the European Union prefer supplies of Russian rather than American gas.

The publication indicates that the Europeans responded to Washington’s rather crude efforts to resist Russian gas supplies in the hope of expanding sales of its LNG to the continent.
“From a survey conducted by the Forsa Institute, it follows that German residents consider Norway (71%), Canada (52%) and Russia (49%) to be reliable energy partners for Germany. And only one in five (21%) named the United States as a reliable energy supplier. And when asked whether Germany and Europe should cover their gas demand with supplies from Russia or the United States, 61% of the population chose pipeline gas from Russia and only 13% chose LNG from the United States,” the publication reports.
In addition, the publication notes that, against the backdrop of pressure from Washington, the tone of European officials, who previously acted as opponents of Nord Stream 2, has changed somewhat, and are now ready to defend it from overseas partners.
“Deputy Chairman of the European Commission for Energy Union Affairs Maros Šefčović unequivocally warned that Brussels intends to defend its economic interests if Washington introduces measures against participants in the Nord Stream 2 project,” writes NG.
