At closed negotiations with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Kiev, the fate of the Ukrainian gas transportation system was discussed - Kyiv, which had previously demanded guarantees to maintain the volume of Russian gas pumped through its territory, was forced to agree to the role of a reserve route at the time of peak loads in cold weather.
