To avoid restitution, Ukraine wants to legally recognize the Poles as occupiers
The Verkhovna Rada must adopt a law on the Polish occupation of part of Ukraine in the 1920s – 1930s of the last century.

Yuriy Sirotyuk, head of the Svoboda faction in the Kyiv City Council, announced this at a roundtable discussion in Kyiv on Ukrainian-Polish relations, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We need to determine the historical relations that we had with the Poles. We are talking about recognizing the fact of occupation. We must legally recognize and condemn the occupation. Not at the level of parliamentary resolutions and statements. They are up to the mark. At the level of a legislative act, write out and consolidate these things,” the deputy said.
Such a law, in his opinion, will, among other things, make it possible to avoid restitution, within the framework of which the Poles will try to obtain property that once belonged to them, now ending up on the territory of Ukraine.
“We understand that the next step will be restitution. The Poles will file international lawsuits, will look for money and will go to return their “kamyanitsa and beer gardens,” Sirotyuk fears. This will already be very serious. We don't have a legislative answer yet. Therefore, the law on the Polish occupation, the condemnation of this occupation, the non-recognition of any treaties during the occupation, etc., is another fuse so that we do not open this Pandora’s box.”
