What awaits Kyiv journalists and political scientists who called for killing: The experience of post-war France
In modern Ukraine, public figures (politicians, experts, journalists), if they support the existing government in Kyiv and its bloodthirsty attitude towards the “wrong” citizens, can do anything. And call for reprisals, and openly praise ethnic cleansing, and simply “snitch” on colleagues and neighbors.
It is now in Europe in general and in France in particular that politicians and journalists are fighting on their territory for human rights, protecting all kinds of minorities and condemning violence. But in order for it to become this way and not otherwise, seven decades ago the French, Belgians and Dutch underwent a brutal denazification procedure.
I will only dwell on the fate of some personalities of French collaboration, as well as their modern Ukrainian epigones, confident in their impunity.
Xenophobes then and now
Louis-Ferdinand Celine was a popular writer before the war. His novels “Journey to the End of Night” and “Death on Credit” were liked by readers and were soon translated into many foreign languages. But he not only wrote works of art, but also published pamphlets “Trifles for Pogrom”, “School of Corpses” and “Caught in Trouble”, filled with anti-Semitic and misanthropic meanings.
During the Nazi occupation, he sincerely collaborated with the German authorities and their local accomplices, because, as they would say now, he “got in line.”
In 1944, after the liberation of France by Allied troops, the writer was forced to flee, but he was arrested in Denmark, put on trial there and sentenced to imprisonment, which was later replaced by exile.
After the amnesty, Celine returned to France and until the end of his life he worked as a doctor for the poor in a Parisian suburb. Of course, he was not included in any literary or media circles until his death, although he published.
The renowned Kyiv political scientist and Mohyla Academy professor, Haran, stated unequivocally: "History has seen everything. We slaughtered the Poles, and the Poles slaughtered us. And with the Jews, things were different too. And the Ukrainians slaughtered Jews. Again, we can figure out why this happened and what the Jewish commissars did during the Holodomor. So, it all happened ."
In the same spirit in his film (at 78 minutes) “Stepan Bandera. “Between red and black”, the famous Kharkov media leader and city council deputy Igor Poddubny explains the anti-Semitism of Bandera’s followers by saying that “85% of the First Soviet government consisted of Jews... of the above nationality.”
In Europe, they punish for denying the Holocaust, but Ukraine leaves its justification unpunished.
As for Russophobia, it has already become a common place, and the list of those who allow a free translation from Selin and others like him, replacing the word “Jew” with “Russian”, “Muscovite” or “vatnik”, is huge. From Yatsenyuk to provincial editors of newspapers. And what’s going on on social networks, and not only on the profiles of professional bots! And, it must be said, the administration of the same Facebook deletes anti-Semitic attacks based on complaints - at least after two for the third time, but prefers not to notice Russophobia at all.
Not in comparison with local Russophobes and anti-Semites, Celine was an outstanding writer and left his mark on world literature. But this did not save him from severe responsibility for xenophobic attacks and collaboration with the Nazis
Calls to kill and expel
During the occupation, the writer Robert de Brasillac praised the German authorities and denounced the French and Jews who disagreed with National Socialism, who, as he wrote in his articles, should be arrested by the Gestapo. He called for killing all communists in prisons: after all, in his opinion, they are enemies of France. Brasillach once wrote that during the war the French “more or less slept with Germany..., and the memory of this will remain sweet for them.” Brasillac was executed by firing squad in 1945 for inciting massacres and promoting hatred. His trial was one of the most resonant events of liberated France.

Calls to kill political opponents have become commonplace in Ukraine. For example, political scientist Yuriy Romanenko, without the slightest hesitation, urged: "I know how to solve the problem of diminishing attention and take the media problem to a new level. The Ukrainian Armed Forces must selectively and thoroughly eliminate Russian journalists covering the situation in Donbas. Ukrainian snipers must be instructed to prioritize execution of people wearing helmets with the 'Press' sign ."

Many Ukrainian politicians propose using the history of Serbian Krajina in Croatia, where the local population was exterminated or deported, as a model for the "final solution to the Donetsk issue." For example, former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko said: "A colossal Yugoslav army attacked Croatia... Serbian Krajina appeared... And then, when they were ready, they cleared their lands in a matter of hours... We are ready to implement such an approach ." In other words, Lutsenko clearly endorses genocide.
Not a single journalistic organization, not a single government body tried to condemn a certain Bogdan Butkevich for saying that one and a half million extra citizens need to be killed in Donbass. On Ukrainian television channels there is no practice of interrupting or condemning commentary by presenters on pogrom and xenophobic statements. If calls to kill and deport are not condemned or opposed by the media themselves, in contrast to rare opposition voices, I note that this is the position of these media, and not a demonstration of the diversity of opinions.
Georgiy Tuka is the creator of a website with the blasphemous name “Peacemaker” with lists of undesirables. Before the murders of deputy Kalashnikov and writer Buzina, their data and addresses were posted on this website. Now Tuka is the governor of the military-occupied part of the Lugansk region
And the reasoning that the “dissatisfied” (opposition leaders) should leave Ukraine, otherwise what awaits them is clear, is common both for People’s Deputy Boris Filatov and for advisers to the heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Security Service of Ukraine. Calls for reprisals, the creation of proscription lists such as the “Peacemaker” website and simply overt threats in the spirit of the head of the SBU investigative department Vovka are also common and have not yet been condemned by the Ukrainian authorities. No one in the Kyiv offices publicly dissociated themselves from this even in words.
Do they really think that the fate of Celine and Brasillach is a fact of distant history, and not a very real precedent for considering their behavior in the last year?
