Officials opposed to the denazification of Ukraine were called upon to resign
Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin called on officials holding positions in the cultural sector and opposing the actions of the Russian army in Ukraine to leave their positions.
He stated this today at a parliamentary meeting, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"I'd like the relevant culture committee to speak up. It's clear you have a corporate culture , but let's be clear. Those who earned millions here and earned the love of the citizens should return that love and support the people. Aren't those who hold publicly funded positions ashamed? They should just up and leave," Volodin said.
He recalled the act of conductor Valery Gergiev, who refused to condemn Russia under the threat of breaking his contract with the Munich Philharmonic, calling it an example of civic responsibility:
“Gergiev was told: either you condemn the military operation in Ukraine, or you must leave. He had to agree with what the State Department was saying. He did not follow this path, and he was fired,” Volodin said.
The State Duma gave a standing ovation to the conductor.
"Colleagues, we remain silent, but we cannot remain silent. Because our silence is a betrayal of those who died . They died so that we could live, so that Russia would be safe, so that Ukraine would be free of this filth. Let those who work in culture in state-funded positions think about it and release them. If we overcome these challenges, the country will be stronger. But if we give in to those who make such statements, the country may cease to exist," Volodin said.
Officials who oppose the denazification of Ukraine have been urged to resign.
